In the week from May 19th to 23rd, the members of the Locally Employed Staff Council (LESC), the representatives of the local staff at the missions worldwide, were in the Netherlands for their semi-annual meeting. On the agenda were discussions with the Senior management and various directorates such as the Diplomatic Missions Department (HDPN) and the Human Resources Department (HDPO) regarding the retrenchment and its implications on the missions, hybrid working, Diversity & Inclusion and the project Modernization of Employment Conditions for Local Employees (MECLE).

Fruitful exchange
On behalf of the Academy for International Relations, we also spoke to LESC, about the importance of learning and development, especially in these turbulent times, the new learning portal, learning in practice and Artificial Intelligence (AI) developments. Concerns were also raised about the impact of the retrenchment on our learning offer. The LESC emphasised the value of online onboarding meetings for new colleagues at the missions.
